Latest Research Demonstrates Importance of Sharks to Our Oceans

Wherever there are oceans, there are sharks. They occupy waters from the poles  to the equator, from miles deep to the oceans’ surface, from mid-oceans to knee-deep waters along the shorelines. Wherever they exist, though, they serve many invaluable ecological functions.  However, since 1970 the global populations of sharks and rays have declined by 70 percent.  A newly published study shows why that is such an urgent problem and why nations must rethink where and how to conserve sharks.
