Singapore has approved 16 species of insects for human consumption. Among them are honeybees, mealworms, grasshoppers and crickets, and restaurants are devising recipes for their menus. The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization promotes insects as alternative protein sources, and notes that farming them is much better for the environment than raising cattle.
