Electric-powered jetliners are in our not-too-distant future, and they’ll have many advantages over traditional airplanes. Traditional jetliners pump out about a billion tons of carbon dioxide every year; electric planes produce none. Furthermore, electric airplanes are quiet, their motors are simpler, they cost far less to build and fly, not all of them require runways, they fly faster, are safer, and someday they will not even require pilots.
