The fear that foreign and domestic actors will use artificial intelligence (AI) to undermine November’s General Election is causing many Americans to lose faith in the election process, and even in democracy itself. Although that faith almost certainly cannot be fully restored by November, several major tech companies have bonded together to provide candidates with a way to detect deepfakes and report any that are created about them. The plan could go a long way toward preserving the election’s integrity.
